Job Description:
Report to: Performance Space Technician and Sceneographer Dates: Spring 2010Hours: 15-20 hours per week, schedule negotiable Duration: 8 - 12 weeks, schedule negotiable. Internship lasts from pre-production/build to end of spring run. (Approximately end of Feb to early April ‘10) Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Work study / school credit is highly encouraged. Prior To Production: Intern will work directly with the production's Sceneographer, Technical personnel, and Director as an apprentice electrician. Electrics Intern participates in the lighting hang and focus of each show, with particular attention to replicating a lighting plot with accuracy. Intern will assist in a load-in/load-out. During Production: After opening, intern duties will include repair and maintenance of lighting plot, and being in charge of material / supply restock. During the technical rehearsals and run of shows, the Electrics Intern may operate a follow spot, program the light console, and share responsibility for running the live production during showtimes. This internship is ideal for individuals who want to refine their electrics and Lighting Design skills. This internship hopes to impart a working knowledge of design implementation, and to prepare the intern to work in the professional theater. Familiarity with lighting, fixture hanging, electrics, cable running, DMX, dimming systems, lighting consoles, and power tool use is required to solve the challenges of non-traditional studio black box tension wire grid. This is a hands-on Internship.
Requirements:
- Some prior electrics experiences
- Creative application of stage craft skills
- Minimum time commitment of 15 hours per week
- Interns will have an irregular schedule including evenings, nights and weekends
- Interns are expected to show excellent logistical/organizational skills, strong time management, ability to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent verbal and written communication and take initiative to solve electrics and lighting problems
- Knowledge of OpenOffice / Microsoft Office programs
Valued but not required: - Minimal rigging experience is helpful but not required (knot tying, spanset, pullies, etc)
- Experience with front of house is welcome, but not required
