Job Description:

Report to: Performance Space Technician and Sceneographer

Dates: Spring 2010

Hours: 15-20 hours per week, schedule negotiable

Duration: 8 - 12 weeks, schedule negotiable.  Internship lasts from pre-production/build to end of spring run. 

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Work study / school credit is highly encouraged.

Prior To Production:

Intern will work directly with the production's Sceneographer, Technical personnel, and Director as an apprentice carpenter and set builder.

During Production:

After opening, intern duties will include paint touch-ups, repair and maintenance of the set, being in charge of material / supply restock, and will assist in a load-in/load-out.

This internship is ideal for individuals who want to refine their scenic carpentry and set building skills.  This internship hopes to impart a working knowledge of design implementation, and to prepare the intern to work in the professional theater. The Internship is a hands-on Internship that will include set building carpentry, working with wood materials, and power tool.

Requirements:

  • Some prior scenic building experience
  • Familiarity with set building carpentry, wood materials, and power tool use is
  • Creative application of stage craft skills
  • Knowledge of structural building requirements regarding theatrical stair units, performance platforms, flat building (both soft and hard) and small set pieces
  • Minimum time commitment of 15 hours per week
  • Irregular schedule including evenings, nights and weekends
  • Excellent logistical/organizational skills, strong time management, ability to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent verbal and written communication and take initiative to solve set construction problems
  • Knowledge of OpenOffice / Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with front of house is welcome, but not required
  • Minimal rigging experience is helpful but not required (knot tying, spanset, pullies, etc)
