| Major Gifts Officer

Job Description:
The Major Gifts Officer assists in organizing and managing an intensive major gift fundraising initiative in support of MICA's $100 million campaign. The Officer spends the majority of his/her time soliciting substantial gifts with emphasis on individuals and will also work closely with a volunteer fundraising network including alumni, parents and friends of the College. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development / Senior Major Gifts Officer. Duties include: - Work with the AVP for Development/Senior Major Gifts Officer in planning and implementation of major gifts fundraising activities
- Actively assume assignment and responsibility for identification, cultivation, and solicitation of a significant number (100+) of pacesetting major gift prospects
- Participate in a disciplined major gift prospect management system that effectively identifies, cultivates, and solicits individual major donors
- Help to implement a program of intense, fast-track major gift prospect cultivation by initiating new cultivation opportunities and enhancing existing programs
- Make calls on prospects and donors to encourage their involvement in and financial support of MICA
- Negotiate planned and outright gifts
- Work with a volunteer network of alumni, parents and other friends who serve as important advocates and partners in the Campaign effort
- Assist in planning and implementing a regional solicitation network seeking to build long-term volunteer leadership and working with the AVP for Development to increase annual gift levels preparatory to the public phase of the Campaign
- Assist in training volunteer leadership in the art of major gift fund raising and accompany volunteers on selected major gift solicitations
- Assist in the drafting of major gift grant proposals to individuals
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated fundraising accomplishments at the major gift level with individuals, includes a stable employment history with increasing levels of responsibility at each career juncture
- Ability to serve as an effective advocate for art and design education
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to support College administrators and volunteer leaders in effective solicitations
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers
- Ability and willingness to travel and to work non-routine hours to achieve goals
- Successful Candidate will be required to complete a full background check
Valued but not required: - Experience with higher education, marketing and arts/cultural organizations
Additional Information:
Salary: 70 - 80K, negotiable and commensurate with experience; includes extensive benefits package.
